Interesting Kentucky
   Facts

"Greenwood is a very small community located in the Daniel Boone National Forest (once known as the Cumberland National Forest) in the north end of McCreary County Kentucky.  McCreary County is located in the southeastern part of the state on the Kentucky-Tennessee border.  Greenwood is hard to find on present day maps and is, for the most part, ignored by county historians.  But is was the place of our beginning.

In the early 1950s Darwin and Elsie Clark taught a two room school in GreenwoodIn the school year of 1950-51 Darwin decided to publish a yearbook for the school of 87 students.  As a part of his plan he formed a staff of six students and let them develop the book with the guidance of himself and Elsie.   Those six students (listed on page 10 of the index) were Betty Owens, Shirley New, Anna Lee Owens, Aldean Warman, Norman Chapman and Lavonne Clark), along with the enthusiasm of the rest of the student body,  created this loving memory of a small community and its children.

The project was financed entirely by individual donations and the staff selling advertising to merchants wherever they could find them.  No was not an option for the merchant when approached by them staff. But it was their kind generosity  of the merchants and donors that  made this book possible.

This book is published on this website in it's entirety exactly as it was published so very long ago in 1951.  No improvement could ever be made to this testament of Greenwood.

This website is dedicated to the entire community of Greenwood, its sons and daughters and to the memory of  a fond time past.  So click on INDEX to begin  the  trip into the past.
