A Letter of Denney Lineage

Below is a letter written by Mrs.Edwin Denney (Elinor) to my mother Mrs. Sarah Elsie Clark. My mother had written a letter to Elinor's sister-in-law Eula Denney, wife of Perk Denney, inquiring about family lineage.  Perk was a brother to Elinor's husband Edwin.  The letter is reproduced exactly as it was written by Elinor.- Tom Clark son of Elsie Denney Clark.

Dear Elsie:

Eula gave me your letter, and I am sending you a brief history of the Denneys as it pertains to your and our families, taken from an account by Guy C. Denney, 813 Carrollton Ave., Indianapolis, Ind., July, 1967.

Denneys first in the highlands of Scotland.

    Then to York, England

1642 Denney family lived in Dublin, Ireland.

Then Edward and two sons went to Tralee, Ireland.
Jeremiah and Iseriah, sons of Edward, came to Hanover Co.

Matthew was the third child, born January 12, 1782, making him about 18 when he came to Kentucky. (This ends the account as related by Lincoln Denney, grandson of Matthew, to his oldest daughter, Lela Denney Hutcheson of Frazier, Ky. ...

Other descendants or Edward may have come to Surrey Co., N. C., (Sam Denny) with name spelled Denny.

1 Matthew Denney married Elizabeth Dodson, daughter of Thomas
Dodson and settled in Wayne Co. Ky. They had 10 children - Jackson,James, John, Franklin, Reuben, George, Thomas, Jerry, Mary, Kate and Elizabeth. Jackson was born in 1817.

I hope this is fairly accurate. I have taken this from several sources. We have been to the graves at Griffin several times, as recently as this summer. I believe I have the dates correct -I know there is an error on one of them and I believe it is Ed’s grandfather’s.

Please excuse the terrible typing. I am trying to learn to

use a new typewriter, and the keys are all changed from when I learned in the dark ages.

We haven’t seen Jim in a long while and as always wonder
where and how he is. We would enjoy seeing your family -come to
see us.

If you have dates I do not have, please let me know. I am trying to get at least the essential history straight

I should tell you that Perk is not at all well. He becomes quite confused. Eula is so patient with him. Ed goes down almost every week and I go whenever I can. We call every day or so.
